Difficulties of Manaslu Tsum Valley Trek

Top 10 Reason to Choose Manaslu Circuit Trek

The Manaslu Tsum Valley Trek is considered a moderate to challenging adventure in terms of difficulty level. This trek is for a long duration of time, which lasts for around 20 days. During each day, you have to walk approximately 6-7 hours to complete this combined trek. You need to walk carefully as the trek follows the rugged trails of the backwood Manaslu locations with several ascends and descends. As there can be the chances of you getting injured, it is better to have the basic knowledge of a first aid kit. Plus, a guide like me will be there anytime, accompanying you, who will provide you with immediate response and help you with emergency situations.

Altitude sickness is another major problem during this trek, which goes above 5,000 meters altitude. You will undergo elevation gain and loss within a short time, which increases the risk of altitude sickness. I have seen many trekkers unable to adjust to the lower oxygen levels of the depleting air as they ascend higher to significant elevations. They key measures to reduce the possibility of altitude sickness are to acclimatize well and take a leisurely pace.

The isolation of the trekking regions also accounts for heightening difficulties of the trek. Most of the time, you have to traverse through remote landscapes with only a few settlements. Hence, the services and facilities during the trek have limited availability. Accommodation during the trekking journey is not very luxurious. You will stay at teahouses or lodges in a sharing room options. The rooms will have basic amenities like a bed, mattress, pillow, and blankets. Toilets are traditional squat styles, and modern services like electronic charging, hot showers, and Wi-Fi are available only at extra cost.

So far, I have found trekkers to be well-equipped with every required trek essential, which lets them stay fresh and comfortable. So, being self-sufficient and self-reliant on the amenities is important during the Himalayan journey. Furthermore, you need to be prepared with the right clothing and appropriate gear for colder temperature conditions and the unpredictability of the weather at alpine elevations.

Can Anyone Do This Trek?

The Manaslu and Tsum Valley Trek is a moderate-level adventure with no involvement in challenging and technical routes. Anyone with sound health conditions, a positive attitude, self-confidence, and strong determination can complete this adventurous Himalayan trek. Although no technical navigation techniques and skills are required to join this trek, it counts as beneficial to have previous experience of trekking in remote highland regions.

The trails of this remote mountain trekking journey involve long climbs, rough hills, steep descends, and high Himalayan passes. You should at least have a reasonable level of physical strength and fitness to tackle and navigate the tricky, rugged terrains. Crossing Larkya La Pass can be physically strenuous, adding challenge to the journey. A considerably fit body with proper stamina is helpful in navigating the Pass seamlessly and making the trekking journey much easier and enjoyable.

For a smooth and enriching experience of the Manaslu and Tsum Valley trekking adventure, prepare yourself physically before going on a trek. It will help you get the endurance capacity required for this trek, making your journey relatively less complicated. Consider engaging in strength-building and cardiovascular exercises regularly for a couple of weeks in advance. Consider engaging in activities like swimming, dancing, running, skipping, cycling, yoga, push-ups, plank, plunges, deadlifts, squats, etc. These exercises help you keep flexible on the trails and improve your breathing ability during this physically exhausting journey. If you are reasonably fit and prepared for approximately 5 to 6 hours of trekking each day, with a light backpack and at a moderate pace, you can embark on this adventurous trip.

Beyond physical preparation, the mental state of a trekker also determines the success and failure of the journey. Several times, when trekkers felt down and like giving up, I have motivated and pushed them to continue with confidence. So, mental preparedness, stability, and resilience are also essential to complete the Himalayan endeavor.

So, to experience an easy and delightful high-altitude environment during the Himalayan endeavors, you need to embark on the ideal trekking season.

Spring (March, April, and May) and autumn (September, October, and November) are the best seasons for undertaking adventures in the remote mountains. Spring is the pre-monsoon, and autumn is the post-monsoon time. During these seasons, the weather is clear and static. Likewise, the temperature is moderate and favorable for a comfortable trek experience. The temperature does not shift time and again during these seasons. The climate is predictable and remains static over a period of time, allowing you to enjoy the journey as anticipated. On average, the daytime temperature in spring and autumn remains around 15 to 20 degrees Celcius. Since the temperature in the early morning and night can get a bit chilly, you need to carry layers of warm clothes.

The sky is bright, clear, and less cloudy than ever. Trekkers are rewarded with clear-cut, unobstructed vistas of the captivating mountain panorama in the sunny, inviting appearance of the sky. Rain and snow are reduced during this time, facilitating the environmental clarity. The Manaslu surroundings are seen with the best visibility, and even the faraway views are seen explicitly. The scarce rain and snowfall also contribute to the safe navigation of the mountainous trails during the Manaslu Tsum Valley Trek. Trails are dry, and the chances of slips and injuries are minimized. Likewise, the route to Larkya la Pass is clear and well-defined, facilitating an easy crossing.

Due to the stable weather and bearable temperatures, the activity of birds and animals increases during this time. So, there is a greater chance of catching glimpses of wide ranges of avians and fauna while traversing the Conservation Areas. Especially in spring, you can find colorful rhododendrons and different Himalayan wildflowers blooming and decorating the landscapes. The sweet melody and chirping of different songbirds coming somewhere from the branches of emerging leaves will leave you awestruck.
