Langtang Gosaikunda Trek - Major Attraction

It is best done after some acclimatizing in Langtang Valley. the trail to Gosaikunda trek ascends steeply through mossy rhododendron forest to the monastery and cheese factory of Sing Gompa.

The ancient Tibetan Monasteries, Rhododendron and pine forests, majestic waterfalls and snowcapped mountains, Lakes, and diverse wildlife are the major attractions of this trek. The sacred Lake Gosaikunda holds great significance to Hindu and Buddhist followers since devotees gather in hordes traveling here, especially on full moon days.

Mainly there are three Kunda (Lake) – Saraswati Kund, Bhairabkunda, and Gosainkunda Kunda (Lake), which also carry great importance to Hindu pilgrims.

It is believed that Lord Shiva created the Gosaikunda with his trident while thrusting it into a mountain to extract water so that he could cool his stinging throat after he had swallowed poison. There is a large rock in the center of the lake, which is said to be the remains of a Shiva shrine. People often claim that they see Shiva lying in the water. it is also claimed that a channel carries water from the lake directly to the tank at the Kumbeshwer Temple in Patan.

Soon after your flight lands at Kathmandu (Tribhuvan International airport), you will be greeted with a warm welcome by a GSA representative after you are encountered with the Display card s/he will be displaying on your arrival. You will be then transferred to the hotel in our private tourist vehicle.

Our trek starts today with a drive to Syabru Bensi, which takes us about six hours by private Jeep. As we drive to Syabru Bensi, we can enjoy the view of the mountains, green hills, and rural lifestyle of the people. After lunch in Trishuli Bazar, we continue to drive to Syabru Bensi. The night will be spent at Syabru Bensi.

Today after breakfast, we start our trek to Lama Hotel, Cross the suspension bridge on the Bhote Koshi river, and follow the Langtang Khola. Passing through the dense forests and crossing several suspension bridges, the trail goes a gradual climb to Bamboo. Having a lunch break in Bamboo we continue our trek. After 450 meters of challenging ascending through the dense forest, we will reach the Lama Hotel. Overnight in a teahouse.

Today the trail leads through the dense forest along the Langtang Khola. After over six hundred meters of ascending, we will reach Ghoda Tabela. The valley is more open and wider, we can see the beautiful view of Mt. Langtang Lirung and the green valley with many waterfalls. We continue our hike Pass by water mills, prayer wheels, Chortens, with sacred mounds of rocks with inscriptions carved on them. Overnight in Langtang Village.

Today is a shorter hike and the trail will be easier, but Altitude may affect you, a slow walk is recommended for acclimatization. Pass on through yak pastures, the largest Mani wall, made from stone with prayers written on them. Walking along the Langtang valley with a scenic view of the Himalayas, the trek will be more interesting when we reach Kyanjing, the beautiful valley with many tiny flowers Where we can find a cheese factory, and bakery as well. Overnight in a teahouse.

Today we wake up early and hike up to Kyanjin- RI to see the aesthetic views of the Himalayas and the beauty of Langtang valley. After breakfast we start our trek to Ghoda Tabela, the trail is mostly gradual down and feels easy to walk. Overnight in Ghoda Tabela.

Trek from Ghodatebela to Thulo Syabru (2260m.) which takes about five hours. The beginning of the trail is a gentle descent up to a landslide and then goes steeply up to Thulo Syabru. En- route you could see red pandas, monkeys, and various species of birds. Thulo Syabru is one of the wonderful villages from where you can enjoy the amazing land feature and the magnificent nature with splendid views of Ganesh Himal (7110m.), Langtang Himal, and its ranges. Stay overnight at the lodge.

After breakfast, we start our trek to Sing Gompa (it calls Chandan bari as well. Today the trek is short, which takes about 4 hours, but it will be over a hundred meters climb mostly through the pine forest. Along the trek, we can see the aesthetic view of Mountains, such as Langtang Himal, Ganesh Himal, and some other Tibetan Mountains and green hills. Sing gompa is a small town where people especially live to run a business, and where we can visit a small Buddhist monastery and a well-managed local cheese factory too. This cheese factory considers the best in Nepal. Overnight in Teahouse.

After 4 hour's climb from Sing Gompa, we will reach Gosaikunda (4361m.) via Lauribinayak La (3920m.). The first part of the trail emerges gently ascent up to Lauribinayak. Then, the trail steeply ascends all the way to Gosaikunda. You follow a rugged trail with dramatic views; to the west Himal Chuli (7893m) Manaslu range (8156mm), Ganesh Himal range (7406m), Tibetan peaks, and Langtang Lirung. On a clear day, even the Annapurna range can be seen rising behind and to the north across the valley is Langtang Lirung. You pass a few huts in the high pasture of Laurebinayak, cross a small ridge, and have your first views of the holy lakes.

There are about a dozen lakes in the Gosainkunda Basin, the main three being Saraswatikunda, Bhairabkunda, and Gosainkunda. According to legend, Gosainkunda was created by Shiva when he pierced a glacier with his trident to obtain water to quench his thirst after having swallowed a poison that threatened to destroy the world. Stay overnight at the lodge.

Trek from Gosaikunda to Sing Gompa / Chandan Bari (3250m.) takes about four and a half hours. The trail descends all the way to Sing Gompa passing Lauribanayak with magnificent mountain views and forests. After lunch in Sing Gompa, we continue our hike to Dhunche (the district headquarters of Rawasua). The begging of trek descends through pine, silver oak, and rhododendrons forests with marijuana plants. Crossing after the suspension bridge, the path stretches across a flat level to Dhunche. Stay overnight in a hotel.

After five days long trek in Langtang valley, today we drive back to Kathmandu. This takes six hours by private jeep. We end our Adventure with a farewell dinner in the evening. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Checklist: what should you pack for Langtang Valley and Gosaikunda trek?

Preparation is essential when you book the 11 days trek to Langtang and Gosaikunda. For comfortable travel, do get prepared as early as you can. Some of the equipment can hire when you arrive here in Nepal. So, keep in mind that you don’t have to buy all the equipment, which is very expensive and not usable after the trip.

Basically, you need a comfortably fitted day backpack since you are carrying it every day for 5 to 6 hours. Make sure your backpack is waterproof, or it has a special cover. Check the trekking equipment list and pick up all the essential needs for yourself. And if you need to discuss more the equipment, please feel free to ask us.

How to prepare yourself for the Langtang valley and Gosaikunda Trek?

When you begin the trek to Langtang Gosaikunda, you will have to walk on up and down on an uneven trail for 8 days with your 5-6 kilos load day backpack. So, start building yourself to make your trip to the mountains easier. A month before the trip starting date, plan for 4-5 days of training a week. The oxygen level is less at the higher altitude and your lung can’t provide enough amount to your body, so exercise is very important for this trip. The more you exercise and hike with some load your legs and muscle get stronger.

At the same time, mental preparation is a very important part of the trip plan. And prepare yourself for basic conditions and rapidly changing weather as well as chances of altitude sickness.

Best time for Langtang Gosaikunda trek

Basically, there are two best seasons for the Langtang Gosaikunda trek. One is from March to May. At this time weather normally get clear and the view of the Mountains is breathtaking. This is a blooming time for Rhododendron and other flowers as well, if you love flowers then the mesmerizing colorful forest steals your heart. Temperature is expected to be 35°C to -5°Cduring this season pretty much warm.

September to November is another best time for the Langtang valley and Gosaikunda trek. During this time, we can expect some rain and snow, but the weather normally gets clear & cooler. Temperature is expected to be 20°C to -10°Cduring this season and the view of the mountains is amazing.

Altitude sickness & acclimatization

without any doubt that once you are on the Langtang Gosaikunda trek, you are aiming to pick up over 4000 meters in elevation, so it is very important to adjust your body in the surrounding environment. At each height, you pick up the oxygen level is gotten low. Less oxygen within the climate may make trouble a bit on breathing. Quick walking without appropriate rest and acclimatization increments the chances of AMS or elevation affliction. To acclimatize your body on thin air, you wish to walk gradually and relentlessly with a bounty of rest and keep your body hydrated.

What is altitude sickness and how to deal with it?

Altitude sickness, also known as “mountain sickness,” is a symptom that can attack while you are hiking or climbing to a higher elevation. Especially this can be happening after 3000m/9840ft. if you walk too quickly.

There are three types of Altitude Sickness

1) AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness: Very common. Symptoms: dizziness, headache, muscle aches, nausea, vomiting.

2) HAPE (High Altitude Pulmonary Edema: This can happen when it builds up fluid in the lungs. This is very dangerous and even life-threatening.

3) HACE (High Altitude Cerebral Edema: this is the most severe form of altitude sickness, and it can happen when fluids take a place in the brain. This is life-threatening and soon needs to seek medical attention.

What should you do

Hike (Ascend) slowly and steadily.

Take plenty of rest and take a deep breath.

Drink plenty of water and fluids, and stay hydrated.

Walk on high and sleep at a low altitude.

If you are suffering from AMS Descend (at low elevation).

Take Diamox or Tylenol, it will help for mild cases.

Drinking water along the trek to Langtang 

Hiking on high mountain land is physically hard work. Drinking enough purified water and keeping your body dihydride is very important while you are on the trip to the Langtang Valley and Gosaikunda trek. During the trek, one should drink 3-4 liters of water every day.

On this trek buying bottled water is expensive ($1 to $4) and a water bottle adds up thrashing problem in mountains, so we highly recommend carrying a reusable water bottle with you. You can fill the water bottle in a teahouse and can use an inbuilt filtration system like Life Straw or Steripen. You can also use water purification tablets to treat the water.

Foods and Accommodation

Meals: We served Breakfast, and a welcome and farewell dinner in Kathmandu according to our Langtang Gosaikunda trek itinerary. All meals are served in full board basic three times a day during the trek in the Mountain. Normally dinner and breakfast will be served in the same lodge we spend the night and lunch will be taken on the way to a destination at a tea house.

Accommodation: All accommodations are on twin sharing basis on this trip to Langtang Gosaikunda. Basically, there are two styles of accommodations. In Kathmandu, you will stay in a deluxe hotel. While you are in Mountains, tea house-style accommodations are provided. Teahouse is a simple facility with unheated rooms. While some tea houses offer attached toilets, some may only have shared washing and toilet facilities.

If you are a solo traveler, a shared room with someone else of the same sex from your group will be arranged. If you prefer a single room, then a single supplement will be applied. Please note that while you are in Everest base camp trekking, single-room accommodations are not always possible. On paying a single supplement, a single room only in Kathmandu will be confirmed, and whenever possible, a single room while on the trek will be provided.

Internet and phone connectivity

Most Of places the phone & internet connection (though unpredictable and irregular in some places) is available.

You can connect with your loved ones while trekking in Langtang Gosaikunda, Check your important information, and upload pictures on social media. Wi-fi is available at all lodges along the trek. Normally you must pay an extra charge for using their Wi-Fi hotspot.

Trip Safety – Insurance

While you are hiking on high Himalayan land it is very important to be safe and healthy and accomplished the trip. We always suggest you walk slowly and steadily with plenty of rest.
