Mera Peak Climbing Overview

Mera Peak climbing is a perfect example of a trekking and climbing trip in Nepal. Mera Peak is one of Nepal's highest trekking peaks, standing at 6476m. The ascent will also provide panoramic views of five peaks that are higher than 8,000 meters: Cho Oyu (8201 m), Makalu (8481 m), Lhotse (8516 m), Kanchenjunga (8586 m), and Everest (8848.86 m),

The trek takes through broad yak pastures and enormous rhododendron woods. Along the way, you'll cross through Mera La Pass and take in the breathtaking Himalayan scenery.

The Mera Peak route takes through Hinku Valley, where you can glimpse Himalayan living that hasn't been significantly changed.

Mera Peak climbing itinerary takes 15 days to complete. The trip begins with your flight to Lukla and hikes to Chutanga. Over the next few days, you will pass through Thuli Kharka, Kothe, Thaknak, Thangnak, and Khare.

There will be pre-climb training at Khare, and you will trek to Mera High Camp the next day. On the 9th day, you will summit Mera Peak and then trek back to Khare. You will begin descending to Kothe, Thuli Kharka, and Lukla over the next few days and then fly to Kathmandu the next.

Mera Peak climbing season is during the spring (late April and May) and fall (late September to November). But the most enjoyable months are May and October.

The best gear for Mera Peak climbing is climbing boots, crampons for grip, descenders with the figure of eight locks, ascender, carabineer, ice axe, helmet, harness, climbing rope, trekking sticks, and gloves, amongst others. The difficulty level of Mera Peak is set for novice climbers.

Budget and Cost for Mera Peak Climbing

To complete this expedition, various permits are required. The Nepal Mountaineering Association climbing permits cost $250 in the spring, $125 in the fall, and $70 in the winter and summer.

A local area permit costs $ 20 per person and a $ 30 Sagarmatha National Park permit. Overall, the best cost for Mera Peak climbing ranges around $1700-2500 depending upon group size and facilities used.

Even though off-season peak climbing has lower permit costs, it isn't easy. Other months have tough conditions due to the cold. There may be heavy snowfall, which will require gear and equipment adjustments.

Climbing Difficulty: Climbing Mear Peak is Right for You?

Even inexperienced peak climbers can attempt Mera Peak. But it is higher than other trekking peaks. Every day's trek will take you, on average, 6 hours. On the summiting day, the average trek time doubles.

As a result, you must engage in strength and aerobic exercises to maintain optimum physical health. Although the climb is relatively simple compared to other peaks like Island peak, certain areas feature large fissures in the glaciers.
