Helambu Trek Overview

Helambu trek is a short and easy trekking destination near Kathmandu Valley. Helambu is in the Langtang region and it's only 72km away from Kathmandu on the lap of the snowy South face of Mt. Langtang Lirung (7227m). Mostly Inhabited by Tamang and Sherpa people, the Helambu trek is popular for its favorable climate, low elevation, peculiar culture, and breathtaking views of the Himalayas and greenery landscape.

The Home of Hyolmo: Hyolmo or Yolmo contains two separate words — Hyul, which means a place surrounded by high mountains, and Mo, which means "goddess", indicating a place under the protection of a female god. For centuries, Tibetan Buddhists have referred to the Helambu region using the term Hyolmo.

This trekking route mesmerizes you with its spectacular landscapes and, eye-catching mountains vista. Helambu trek is the most suitable trek for those who are in Nepal for a short period of time as it can be completed within 5 to 7 days. Your journey starts off at the northeast corner of Kathmandu valley-Sundarijal and goes past Chisapani, Kutumsang, Magin Goth, Tharepati, Melamchigaun, Nakote and Hyolmo, and Tarke Gyhang. Much of the way from Sundarijal, is upstairs, continuing and eventually turning left to cross over the dam of a water reservoir (5200ft.).

Passing by the Shivapuri National Park integrated with various flora and fauna, you will experience an adventurous trail through the oak forest with many ups and down until Chisapani. Chisapani which literally means ‘cold water’ situated at an altitude of 7200ft, is a small village with few houses and lodges where you can take a break, relax, and view the rural life of people living there. Overviewing the glimpses of the Himalayas from the height of Chisapani, Trek continues through small villages Chipling, Kharepati to reach Melamchigaun.

Offering the spectacular scenery of mountains, Melamchi village accompanies the trail with the utmost flow of its Melamchi river. This adventure of the Helambu trek descending through the open farmland of Tarke Ghyang and Hyolmo village comes to an end after reaching Sermathang(2620m).

After an hour's drive to Sundarijal, we start our hike to Chisapani. Today we must ascend over thousand meters and descend a few hundred meters to reach our destination. After 30 minutes hike from Sundarijal, we enter the Shivapuri National Park. Passing through the village Mulkharka and walking along the ridge through a forest of Oaks and Rhododendron we will reach Chisapani. Overnight in lodge.

Today, we begin our trek to Kutumsang. Today, we must walk many up and downhill, starting with a decent passing through meadows and fields we will reach Pathi Bhangang. Along the way, we will enjoy the Mountain Vista and the greeting of the local people. After Seven hours walk, we will reach Kutumsang. Overnight at Kutumsang.

After breakfast, we start our journey by ascending through the Oaks and Rhododendron forests. The altitude gets higher, and the weather gets cold. After a lunch Break in Mangin Kot, we continue our hike along the ridge. The view of the Himalayan from Tharepati is magnificent. Overnight in Thadepati

Today we eat breakfast with an amazing Mountain vista and begin our hike to Tarke Ghang. After two hours descend through a forest, we will reach the beautiful Sherpa village of Melamchighang. We continue our trek down to Melamchi Khol, the crossover suspension bridge, and hike uphill to Tarke Ghang. Explore the village and one of the oldest and big Monasteries in the region. Tarke Ghang, popularly known as Helambu, is mostly Inhabitants by the Helmu cast. Overnight in Tarkeghyang.

Today the trail will be more gradual and easier compared to other days. We walk through the forest and cross small streams and waterfalls. After 4 hour's walk around the wide-open valley, we will arrive at Sermathang. We discover the village and Buddhist Monastery. Overnight at Sermathang.

Today is our final day of the trek. We walk all the way down to Malemchi Bazar, one of the biggest towns in the region. Where our six days of trek come to end. We have a lunch break in Melamchi and then, we drive from Melamchi Bazar to Kathmandu. Trip over with fare well dinner.
