Mardi Himal Trek Background

Mardi Himal trek offers an off-beaten path trekking experience in the Annapurna Himalayan region of Nepal. The trekking route to Mardi Himal was officially opened for trekkers in 2012, it provides access to the relatively pristine natural and cultural heritage of Nepal.

Mardi Hill trek is one of the short and easy treks in the Annapurna region where one can observe the marvelous Annapurna Sanctuary from a great top angle. Our 7 days Mardi Himal Trek package provides access to Nepal's cultural and natural diversity. With such diverse offerings, this is a trek that is worth the 7-day time it takes.

Our travel planners traveled the route before creating a route map. When it opened the Mardi Himal Trek route was not up to the standard but nowadays because of various teahouses/lodges being opened on the way, the quality of its offerings has also improved drastically.

Mardi Himal Trek Route and View

Trek to Mardi Himal base camp starts with a bus drive from Pokhara to Dhampus and starts hiking towards Deurali, which takes 3 hours. En route to Deurali trekkers will trek past the wide grassy meadow hamlet of Australian Camp. And before heading to Pothana you can enjoy the first panoramic mountain vistas.

Once your permits are checked the easy walking along the stone-paved trail leads trekkers to the first rest camp of Deurali. The outstanding view of Annapurna South (7219m) and Hiunchuli looms large from this place. The journey will head to Forest Camp from this place. The trail follows the outstanding forests of Rhododendron and varieties of other vegetation.

The trail to the Mardi Himal trek in December and January will be covered by snow, therefore, it is highly recommended to take a trekking guide during this season. During the monsoon rain gullies could be a hindrance while walking which requires careful walking on the trail.

As we trek through the trail from Low Camp to High Camp anyone will be the epitome of wilderness adventure. The trekking trail is rugged and rocky with a danger of falling stones. But once we reach High Camp, you will be amazed by the breathtaking view of Mount Annapurna South, Himchuli, and Fishtail from the top. Moreover, viewing the most craved touristic destination from untainted and less explored places assists in creating virgin holiday moments.

Is this Trek suitable for you?

For anyone who has less experience in hiking and looking for a short trek in Nepal, then this Mardi Himal trek can be the best option. If you can hike for 4 to 5 hours a day and carry some load (5-6 kilograms), you can start planning this adventure trip in Nepal. If you are physically fit and do not suffer from any serious illness, you can prepare and get ready yourself for this Hiking. As a preparation, you must do some exercise and one hour of hiking a day with some load months before the trip starts. This training will help you to accomplish the trip more easily.

    Exactly what I wanted

My friend in Chicago recommended Green Society Adventures to me several months ago. I reached out to Raj and told him we had 9 days, and want to be in nature, eat good food and meet some Nepali people. As it turns out, it was the perfect length of time to take on Mardi Himal at a leisurely pace. First of all, it was the most beautiful hiking I have ever done and as I hear it, it is some of the most beautiful hiking in Nepal.

Raj made an itinerary and as the time got closer, he revised our itinerary to reflect weather patterns and other factors. He was communicating with other guides and people along the way to make sure we would have the best weather and experience possible. Very serious about customer satisfaction and safety. I would highly recommend Green Society Adventures for an experience tailored to your needs and requests.

Useful Information

What Should You Pack for This Short Mardi Himal Trek?

Planning is fundamental when you book the 8-day Mardi Himal Trek. For easy and comfortable travel, do get prepared as early as you can. Some of the equipment can hire when you arrive just before the trip's starting date. So, keep in mind that you don’t have to buy all the equipment, which is very expensive and not usable after the trip.

Basically, you need a comfortably fitted day backpack since you are carrying it every 4-5 hours. Make sure your backpack is waterproof, or it has a special cover. Check this link for the trekking equipment list and pick up all the essential needs for yourself. And if you need to discuss more the equipment, please feel free to ask us.

How to Prepare Yourself for the Trip to Mardi Himal trekking

On this journey to Mardi Himal base camp, you will have to walk on up and down an uneven path every day together with your 4-5 kilos stack day rucksack. So, begin building yourself to create your trip to the mountains simpler. A month before the trip start, plan for 4-5 days of training a week. The more you do exercise your legs and muscle get stronger.

At the same time, mental preparation is a very important part of the trip. And prepare yourself for basic conditions.

Best Time for Mardi Himal trek

Essentially, there are two best seasons for the short Mardi Himal trek. One is from March to May, currently, the weather ordinarily gets clear, and the view of the Mountains is breathtaking. And this is the blooming time of Rhododendron if you love flowers then the mesmerizing colorful forest steals your heart. The temperature (30 °C to 5°C) during this season is pretty much warm.

September to November is another best time for trekking to the Mardi Himal trek. During this time, we can expect some rain and snow, but the weather normally gets clear & cooler, and the view of the mountains is amazing.

Drinking Water

Drinking sufficient decontaminated water and keeping your body dihydride is very important while you are on the journey to Mardi Himal. During the trek, one should drink 3-4 liters of water every day.

Along the route to the Mardi Himal base camp buying bottled water is not available. Water bottle adds up to the thrashing problem in the mountain, so the local teahouse avoids bottled water, and they offer boiled decontaminated drinking water at lodges at additional cost. It cost anywhere between $1 to $3 dollar.

We highly recommend carrying a reusable water bottle with you. You can fill the water bottle in lodges, or one can use an inbuilt filtration system like Life Straw or Steripen. You can also use water purification tablets to treat the water.
