The Khopra Danda Trek is one of the recently developed routes in the Annapurna region that lets you explore traditional villages and close-up, breathtaking panoramas of Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, Machhapuchhre, Nilgiri, and surrounding peaks. After it was opened for all trekkers, locals started running teahouses, lodges, and restaurants to provide travelers reliable services. Getting close to nature, you have the option of camping.

Imagine how it would be while spending a night under the blanket of stars in a serene atmosphere and then waking up with sunrises when first golden rays of sun illuminate snow-capped mountains. Each step is rewarding, especially moments of standing at Khopra Danda (3660 m) and Khayar Lake (4,660 m), which are unparalleled experiences.

If you are searching for peaceful paths, warm hospitality, and moderate-level Himalayan routes, Khopra Danda can be best for you, which is also shorter, easier, and equally enjoyable in comparison to trekking like the Mardi Himal trek or the Tamang Heritage Trek. No regrets but appreciation in savoring the charm of untouched natural grandeur.

What makes the 10 Days Khopra Danda trek special?

Less-Crowded Alternative in the Annapurna Region

Not every trekker wants to follow the frequently visited and viral trails. If you are someone who loves tranquil atmospheres, fewer crowds, and more space to explore, then Khopra Danda is the best choice for you.

However, after experiencing life in remote Himalayan settlements, the trail also takes you to Ghorepani and a popular vantage point—Poon Hill Station (3210 m). If the Khopra Danda trail takes you through a variety of meaningful destinations, why not choose it? If you want a shorter trek, Ghorepani Poon Hill—6 days.

Spectacular Himalayan panoramas

You do not need to reach Annapurna/Mardi Himal Base Camp or Thorong La Pass to enjoy expansive views of towering peaks of the Annapurna region. From the ultimate destination, Khopra Danda, and Khayar Lake also offers the best mountain views. With no disturbances, click photos in a captivating backdrop of peaks such as Dhaulagiri, Annapurna South, and Nilgiri.

Wildlife experience and distinct flora

Get a golden opportunity to see wild animals, including musk deer, Himalayan tahr, and langur monkeys, as the Khopra Danda trek route lies inside the Annapurna Conservation Area Project, the first protected area, which was established in 1986. While trekking through rhododendron forests, the beauty of such woodlands, bird chirping, and tree rustling gives you peace of mind.

Without harming wildlife, you can capture their activities on a camera roll and expose it to the entire world, as it will surely be a masterpiece whether you are a professional photographer or not.

Community-Based Trekking and Authentic Village Experience

Mahapur Pun, a social innovator, activist, and member of Parliament, introduced the Khopra Danda trek trails at first with the purpose of promoting sustainable ecotourism. Hence, you will find teahouses run by local inhabitants. You can communicate with them, and have immersion to their cultural heritage.

Similarly, you will meet several locals, wearing their own customs, who use their dialect and get involved in farming for livelihood. During this trek, you will especially know about Gurung and Magar communities. Their daily life, struggle for living in isolated areas, and their faith. Since the fund collected through tourism goes to schools of local villages and health posts, you will be satisfied by doing this trek, as you are not only enjoying nature but also helping remote settlements to become financially strong.

Moderate routes with flexible options

Although the Annapurna trail is not easy, it is not as simple as walking on the flat terrain of Terai. However, the route does not require technical climbing; instead, you will encounter trails with several gradual ascents and descents. You do not feel very challenged like on other off-the-beaten-path routes such as the Manaslu Circuit, Kanchenjunga Circuit, and Tsum Valley, but it is more difficult compared to panorama treks.

Our 10-day Khopra Danda Trek itinerary takes you to Ghorepani, Poon Hill, and Khayar Lake, but you can extend the duration upon your vacation days and fitness level. The route does not take you up to landmarks more than 5000 m. Hence, you can enjoy great views without reaching extreme altitude, which is also the best part of the trek.

How much does the Khopra Danda trek cost?

The total Khopra Danda Trek cost cannot be fixed, as different factors such as trekking season, duration, company, chosen facilities, travel style, trekking logistics, and nationality influence the total expenses. Nevertheless, the trek is affordable with no compromise to your safety. If you book this trip in a group, you may get some discounts compared to solo trekkers.

Ensure that if you join us for this 10-day Khopra Ridge Trek, the package includes transportation fees, all trekking permits, some trekking equipment, fares for guides and porters along with their lodges, meals, and insurance, three meals a day, and a hotel during Kathmandu Stays. In addition, you should pay extra for meals, beverages, and accommodation out of the itinerary. Our package costs USD $695, but it may differ based on your preferences, as explained above.

Note: Porter is not included in our trip package, but if you need one, we can arrange a porter (one porter can carry a backpack for two trekkers) with an extra cost of $190. As you arrive in the capital city, Kathmandu, the Khopra Danda Trek packages get activated.

With gradual ascents and some descents, finally you reach Khopra Danda (3660 m) on the fifth day of the trek, crossing villages like Ishore, Dobato, Bayeli Kharka, Lower Chistibung, and Upper Chistibung.

One more day, you will spend a night at Khopra Danda as you go on a side hike to Khayer Lake (4,660 m), a sacred lake that is believed to be the residence of Khayer Barahi (incarnation of Hindu God Bishnu). Enjoying the charms of pristine landmarks each day, you will descend to Swanta village, where you will see alpine landmarks transform to magnificent terrain with more lush forests. However, you will once experience mountainous scenery as the Khopra Danda trek itinerary takes you to Ghorepani on the 8th day.

The next day, head to Poon Hill Station for awe-inspiring mountain views and sunrises over them before the sun's first ray appears. On the same day, descend to Heile, and then drive back to Pokhara. After long days of trekking, you will feel relaxed while staying near the peaceful atmosphere of lakesides. Similarly, long hours of driving take you back to the Kathmandu valley, where the trip ends after a farewell dinner.

You will not retreat booking with Green Society Adventure

I have traveled to Nepal several times, both solo and in groups, and I have done many treks with Green Society Adventure. There is always attention to detail and very professional service. I feel very safe knowing that the guides take their job very seriously. Because the company is local, the cost is extremely reasonable as well. I have enjoyed my travels with them so much, I have chosen them as my partner when I lead yoga retreats in Nepal! I can recommend them without hesitation!
